VTTI

Profile
VTTI is a major player in the energy storage and terminal industry. Founded in 2006, the company is one of the world’s fastest-growing energy storage businesses. VTTI is a 50/50 joint venture between the Vitol Group, one of the world’s largest energy traders, and MISC, a major Malaysian shipping company and has 12 terminals with a total capacity of 8.7 million cubic metres, situated across 11 countries on five continents.

VTTI operates in a challenging industrial environment and has grown through acquisitions as well as greenfield projects in locations across the globe. At minimum, VTTI complies with all local legislation and regulations and also importantly prides itself on regular internal HSE audits across all terminals. In this manner, VTTI strives to raise every operating unit to the greater challenge of achieving top industry standards.

Challenge
VTTI strives to be a leader in its field. The company has been working hard to establish new benchmarks for HSE performance. VTTI’s vision is to create a single, optimal VTTI standard for every terminal. Accordingly, VTTI is upgrading and improving its processes to support this strategy. Hence, VTTI requires a proven, best in class Integrated Safe System of Work (ISSOW) that can be used to effectively manage hazardous activities and to promote the elements of safety in a simple yet effective manner.

Solution
The ISSOW system has thus been implemented at VTTI’s ETT and ETA terminals to further the company’s goal. Prior to implementation, both terminals were using a paper-based permit to work (PTW) system. Operational and HSE Management selected eVision’s electronic PTW system to improve turnaround time and control of the work carried out. Furthermore, VTTI found that the previous paper system naturally complicated things and did not adequately meet VTTI’s requirements of generating an overview of the work performed. In implementing the ePTW system, VTTI is working towards an improved turnaround time of the PTW process and the improved safety and safety awareness. The system also allows operational management more control and an overview of all the activities at VTTI’s terminals.
